Community Announcements

Centre Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) is currently in need of volunteer licensed therapists! Please read below for a word from their Behavioral Health Director, Dr. Jessica Effrig.

I first served at CVIM as a doctoral student completing an advanced practicum class. Even then, I knew I wanted to return in the future —the social justice values of the agency fit so well my own professional and personal values. The staff are passionate about the agency mission and providing excellent care for marginalized, vulnerable members of our community who cannot access health insurance coverage.

It’s a joy to be back again, this time as a licensed psychologist on the behavioral health team. The team is based on a collaborative care model that focuses on the integration of physical and behavioral healthcare. We are able to offer comprehensive services to patients, including counseling, case management, psychiatric consultation, and medical care.

The number of patients we serve continues to grow, and we continue to look for licensed clinical providers to volunteer with us, even for just one hour a week. Volunteers can offer individual or group counseling, clinical supervision for trainees, diagnostic assessments, psychiatric consultation, or consultation to the team on areas of expertise. The medical part of our clinic is staffed primarily by volunteer physicians and nurse practitioners, and we hope our behavioral health program can also benefit from the generosity of mental health providers in our community.

Volunteers can do telehealth or in-person session. I think one of the biggest benefits that volunteers experience is the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team with seasoned providers from psychiatry, primary care, and case management. It's such a different feel than private practice, holding cases where you can easily consult with multiple other providers who know the patient.

If you can give an hour or more a week, please reach out. I’d love to talk with you more.

Jessica C. Effrig, Ph.D.
